Constitution Day Celebration

 constitution day

Oklahoma Wesleyan will begin to celebrate Constitution Day, September 17, annually to remind its students and members of the community of the significance of our country’s founding document, the Constitution.  The Constitution, the supreme law of the United States, was adopted by the Constitutional Convention on September 17, 1787, and established a federalist republic that guaranteed the rights of all individual citizens of the United States and limited the rights of any person or government that would seek to abridge or abrogate those rights.

Oklahoma Wesleyan University’s Keating Center for Capitalism, Free Enterprise, and Constitutional Liberty is grounded in the belief of and respect for the individual liberties granted to all Americans by our Constitution, and will therefore respect and celebrate this document throughout the year and particularly on Constitution day.

To celebrate the first Constitution Day at OKWU since the opening of the Keating Center, the university will welcome Stephen Moore, Editorial Page Editor and Senior Economics Writer of The Wall Street Journal, who is an ardent and tireless advocate of individual rights and liberty, free markets, free enterprise, and limited government.  In addition to his many editorials and op-ed pieces for the Journal, Mr. Moore has appeared frequently on television news programs such as CNBC’s Kudlow Report, Fox News’s On the Record with Greta Van Susteren, and many others.

Mr. Moore, an economist, founded the Club for Growth in 1999 and served as its president until 2004 when he left to form the Free Enterprise Fund, which lobbied for free enterprise and free market solutions to national economic and tax issues.  He join the editorial board of the Journal in 2006.  Mr. Moore has also served as a budget expert for the Heritage Foundation, a senior fellow in economics at the Cato Institute, and is the author of five books on economic and tax policy.  Mr. Moore is a native of Illinois, a graduate of the University of Illinois and holds a Masters of Economics from George Mason University.

Mr. Moore will speak to the community at 7:30 p.m. on September 17, 2013 at the university’s Lyon Chapel and Fine Arts Center, 2201 Silver Lake Road in Bartlesville.  There is no charge for admission.
