Last week, Oklahoma Wesleyan University ceremonially burned its “mortgage” to signify that the private Christian college had recently emerged totally debt free.
It is an enviable position for any institution of higher education. But what is truly amazing is that this small, but nationally recognized, university did not achieve this status through draconian austerity measures. Far from it. The university is actually spending lots of money throughout the local economy.
OKWU has constructed multiple new buildings on its beautiful and well-maintained south Bartlesville campus in the past decade, virtually doubling the size of its physical structure to serve a growing student population….
