Adult & Graduate

In a continued effort to serve military students, several staff from the Adult and Graduate Studies division of OKWU are headed to the CCME (Council of Colleges and Military Educators) conference in Tampa next week. CCME, a not-for-profit organization, was founded 36 years ago to promote, encourage, and deliver quality education to service members and their families in all branches of the armed services. Its membership is principally composed of military educators, civilian educators, post-secondary educational institutions, and suppliers of quality education products and services. The CCME symposium is the largest annual forum in the country with an expected attendance of about 1000 participants. The annual symposium facilitates the networking and interaction of the key leadership across these organizations in an environment that is focused on enhancing and optimizing voluntary education opportunities for the service member and their families.

As a Yellow Ribbon participant, OKWU’s Adult & Graduate division is dedicated to serving those who serve our country. The opportunity to attend this conference helps keep staff abreast of the unique issues these students face, and the best practices for addressing their needs.

Keynote and general session speakers include Terry W. Hartle, American Council on Education/Senior Vice President, Division of Government and Public Affairs and Keith M. Wilson, Director of Education Service/US Department of Veterans Affairs. Some of the topics covered in the concurrent sessions are Life Planning and Academic Credit for Returning Veteran Students; Customer Service For Military Students: Building And Managing Relationships; and Educational Program for Post-deployment Issues in the Classroom.

“I am looking forward to learning about new and creative tools for the success and advancement of not only our military, but all of our students at OKWU,” says one of the attendees, Jeanne Chinnock, Academic Advisor and Student Success Coordinator.
