The Christian Adult Higher Education Association (CAHEA) was formed in the mid 90’s by the educators involved in non-traditional adult degree programs. Today, the group is made up of over 70 faith based institutions whose faculty and staff attend the yearly conference to discuss issues and learn from each other regarding the successes and needs of these unique programs.
Dr. Paulita Brooker, the Vice-President of the Adult and Graduate Programs at OKWU currently serves on the Leadership Council for this group. Dr. Brooker recently travelled to Nashville to meet with the Council as it finalizes plans for the 2011 conference to be held in Colorado Springs in July, and looks ahead to 2012 when the conference will convene in Nashville. As a member of the program committee, Dr. Brooker and other members of the committee have set a goal of making every conference better than the last. Presentations and roundtables on topics such as Online Programs, Serving Military Students, and Marketing with Social Media Tools are being included in this year’s conference, and will be presented by those leading the way in each of these areas.
The world of adult higher education continues to change, and CAHEA continues to probe, discuss and advance adult degree programs through the yearly conference and through year-round individual networking and sharing via its listserve.
