PRESIDENTIAL AWARD

Dean Mills

This Award recognizes people for outstanding support or service to the university and must have exemplified Christian ideals of OKWU.
For over twenty years, Dean Mills (’66) has been an indispensable part of the Oklahoma Wesleyan athletics department. As their long-time bus driver, he has transported students over 1.2 million miles in 29 states through snowstorms, rainstorms and fog. However, his has stretched far beyond his driving ability.
“Dean is one of those rare individuals who is always there to serve,” commented Dr. Piper. “He never asks for anything and always gives – He gives to the University. He gives to our students. And most of all, he does all of this as a gift to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

Mills first became a part of the university’s legacy as a student at Miltonvale Wesleyan College, as a youth pastor and teacher, and as a bus driver and mentor. Students, faculty and coaches agree that the hours spent on the road with Mills were an opportunity to share many conversations about faith, family and what it means to serve.
