Mike Fullingim was born in Enid, Okla., and accepted a call to missions service during his freshman year of high school. Mike prepared for missions service by attending Miltonvale Wesleyan College where he earned an A.A. degree in 1968. From Southern Nazarene University, he earned both a B.A. degree in 1970 and a M.A. degree in religion in 1975. From the University of Texas at Arlington, he earned both a M.A. degree in linguistics in 1980 and a Ph.D. in linguistics in humanities in 1987. At Miltonvale, Mike met Barbara Matt of Austin, Minnesota, who also sensed a call to missions. Her educational preparation included an A.A. degree from Miltonvale Wesleyan College in 1968, a B.A. degree in elementary education from Southern Nazarene University in 1970, and a M.A. degree in education (reading specialty) in 1975. The Fullingims left for Papua New Guinea in 1975. Their missions service has included literature translation ministries, district administration, and church planting. The Fullingims returned to North America in 1986. Mike is currently a faculty member at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. He is also serving with Wesleyan World Missions as the director of Missionary Training Institute (MTI) and as a cultural/language consultant for missionaries. Mike and Barbara have two grown children: Jeremy and Kristina.
