BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (1-22-10) – In a match up of two of the top individual scorers in NAIA Div. II men’s basketball, Oklahoma Wesleyan University senior guard Steve Briggs got the best of Central Christian College’s Sean High, leading the Eagles to a 112-82 victory.
Briggs, a native of Duncanville, Texas, converted nine three-pointers in route to his career high 46-points. The Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference leading scorer, High, fell just one point shy of his average, finishing with 28-points of his own.
With the victory, the Eagles improve their overall record to 19 and zero, three and zero in the MCAC. The win also moves to the Eagles win streak to 37 straight contest, the longest current winning streak in men’s college basketball.
Midway though the first half, the Wesleyan men let the Tigers within one, before breaking out to a 17-point half time lead. Junior Sadiel Rojas finished the first half with just two-points and four rebounds, but picked it up in the second stanza, finishing with another double-double, 13-points and 11 boards.
As a team, the Eagles outrebounded their foes from Kansas, 49 to 33, including an 11 offensive rebound margin in favor of the home team.
Oklahoma Wesleyan junior Murray Shaw was the only other Eagle to finish in double figures with 13-points, while Kaelon Gary and Don Gavin ended the contest with 17 and 14 points respectively for the Tigers.
The NAIA Div. II No. 1 Eagles will host the Indians of Haskell Indian Nations (Kan.) on tomorrow afternoon beginning at 5 p.m. The Indians look to recover from a 102-61 loss to College of the Ozarks (Mo.) tonight in Point Lookout, Mo.
