BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (12-21-09) – After beginning the game missing their first nine shots, the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles heated up to shoot 47-percent from the field to take down the Battlin’ Bears from Rocky Mountain College (Mont.), 89-78, on Saturday night in Billings, Mont.
The best three point shooting team in the nation, the 12-0 Eagles finished the ball game with a total of 13. OKWU converted four more shots from long range than Rocky Mountain, giving them the 12-point margin of victory they needed.
With the win over the 2009 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Division I National Champions, the Eagles extended the nations longest winning streak to 30 games.
An All-American last season, senior Steve Briggs stepped up to the challenge following the slow start to ball game, scoring the first 11 OKWU points. Briggs finished the first half with 20 of his 36-points, including converting six baskets from behind the arc.
A balanced showing for the Eagles in scoring, junior All-American Sadiel Rojas was the only other Wesleyan player to reach double figures in scoring, finishing the contest with 16-points. Rojas also finished the contest with 14-rebounds, recording his seventh double-double of the season.
Oklahoma Wesleyan men are idle until 2010 when they return home to face Ozark Christian College (Mo.) on Jan. 2 in Bartlesville.
