OKWU Men’s Soccer started their season off with a stalemate versus Rogers State University. After two overtimes and the sun going down the score was still 0-0. Even though neither team came out on top, credit both teams with a hard-fought, well played beginning to a season.

As a coach Jamie Peterson was pleased with his team’s passion and effort stating “I felt that we played hard and with passion. I think we have a lot to build off for this being our first game together. We had several guys that were hurting and cramping up, but yet they continued to push forward.” This effort definitely showed all the way through this double overtime game and OKWU’s defense really stepped up no matter how tired they were. When asked what he was most proud of Coach Peterson said “ As a team we defended very well. We had several players step up and play well. Our defense kept us in the game anchored by our Goalie, Vladan Glvaonic. Mark and Conor were solid as expected and Juan Rueda and Adam Skidmore worked really hard to keep a shutout.” With a defensive effort like this one and the addition of some offense this is a season to look forward to for this young team that refuses to lose and never gives up.

Coach Peterson wanted to make sure and thank the crowd that came out to support the team this game and looks forward to having that support all season.

The OKWU Men will hit the game field again this weekend as they are set to compete against Bethany College (KS) and Sterling College (KS) in the Swede Classic this Friday and Saturday September 3rd and 4th.
