BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (3-7-10) — On a perfect day for baseball, the Eagles offense stayed cold as they were swept in a doubleheader Sterling College (Kan.) on Saturday, 1-6 and 5-6.
The Eagles, now 6-11 on the season, had a perfect opportunity in the second game with men on base when the Sterling second baseman made a great play on a line drive between first and second.
Freshman outfielder Riley Murr had the hot bat in the second game, ripping a double to start a three-run third inning for the Eagles. Murr eventually scored his only run of the game. He finished 2-for-4 with one run scored and a run batted in.
Johnny Porter also had a good game for the Eagles, driving in two runs on a single, and scoring a run of his own. JD Nalder added a hit as well, scoring two runs.
Picking up the decision in the second game was Thomas Kellner. Kellner pitched six innings, giving up six runs on eight hits, five of which were earned. He struck out four batters and walked five.
In the first game of the twin bill, the Eagles lone run came in the first inning when sophomore Ryan Hutchings came across the plate, after the leading off the contest with a hit.
Nalder had a good start to the day, reaching safely three times out of four at bats.
Nick Randolf picked up the loss in the first game.
The Eagles host a tough Park University (Mo.) team on Monday at OKWU Field, weather permitting. First pitch is set for noon, with two games scheduled for the date.
