BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (9-8-09) – The Oklahoma Wesleyan Volleyball (2-4, 0-1) team suffered a tough loss on Tuesday night, falling to conference rival College of the Ozarks, 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-11). Despite the scores to each set, the Lady Eagles and Lady Bobcats made the match very exciting for the fans who attended the event at OKWU’s Mueller Sports Center.

The intensity of both teams were evident during the first set, as the Lady Bobcats would start to pull away, the Lady Eagles would claw back to give them a small run.

Ozarks entered the 2009 season in the Top 30 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Leading the way offensively for the Lady Eagles was sophomore Randa Roberts. Roberts, a native of Bixby, Okla., racked up six kills on a total of 11 attacks. Along side of Roberts offensively were Leslie Smith who had three kills on 21 attacks, and Alica Efron with three kills. Jennifer Parsons and Michelle Sanger both added four kills of their own.

Freshman Mandy Muncy led the way defensively, recording 10 digs, while senior Stephanie Lee picked up nine digs and Smith added seven.

The Lady Eagle spikers now gear up for matches in Texas this weekend as they head to Waxahachie to face Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Friday evening. Saturday, they will face the University of St. Thomas (Texas) at SAGU. Last season, the Lady Eagles were scheduled to play in Waxahachie as well, but were forced to cancel due to Hurricane Gustav.

Next week, head coach Sara Kingery and her players take on John Brown (Ark.) on Tuesday, Sept. 15, and then head to St. Paul, Minn., on Sept. 18 and 19, for the Macalester College (Minn.) Invitational. The next home game and Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference game will take place on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
