BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (11-8-09) – Just 17 hours after suffering their first loss of the season to Bethel College (Kan.), the Lady Eagles rebounded by taking down their third straight Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent McPherson College (Kan.) on Saturday, 75-51.
It was a battle in the first half, with the Lady Eagles leading by just one, 30-29, but the young squad picked it up in the second half, allowing coach Britney Kannady to clear the bench late in the contest.
Three freshmen scored in double figures for the Lady Eagles, led by Rebecca Schluter’s 18-point and 16-rebound affair. Schluter is average 12.33 rebounds a game in her first three ball games at the college level. Leading the ladies in scoring was Berryhill native Sara Spencer with 20-points, and high school teammate Kaitie McMahan had 12 of her own.
Other Lady Eagles scoring in the ballgame include freshman Holly Smith with eight, Katie Weaver with five, Brittany Minx with four, and Christine Peterson and Stacie Bell each had three. Adding a free throw late in the contest was Kayla Deal.
As a team, the Lady Eagles out rebounded the Lady Bulldogs by 12, pulling down a total of 46.
The Wesleyan (2-1) women host Rogers State University (1-0) on Tuesday night in the Mueller Sports Center on the OKWU campus. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
