BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (11-24-09) – The Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s basketball team tied a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Division II record for consecutive wins Tuesday night as they defeated Southwestern College (Kan.), 97-72, in Bartlesville. With the victory, the Eagles have won 27 straight games, including 24 straight on their home floor. Oklahoma Wesleyan’s last lost came against conference opponent College of the Ozarks (Mo.) on Jan. 20, 2009.
The Wesleyan men look to break the national mark a week from tonight on Dec. 4, when they host Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College out of Moore.
The Eagles got on the board quick, taking a 23 to nine lead early in the game, knocking down several three during the stretch. Three pointers were not a problem for the Eagles, converting 17 of 43 shots from behind the arc, two shy of a school record.
Leading the way for the Eagles was 2009 Third Team All-American Sadiel Rojas who recorded his fifth double-double of the season, scoring 24 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Freshman Deantre Harlan had a double-double of his own with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Vancouver, Wash., native Aron Crowley had a hot hand from behind the arc, converting five three pointers in eight shots.
Oklahoma Wesleyan out rebounded the Moundbuilders by a whopping 25 boards, 55 to 30. For the ball game, the Eagles shot nearly 46 percent, including 50 percent from the field in the first half.
