Both the Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams opened their seasons this past Friday night in the Mueller Sports Center with wins. In the women’s game the Lady Eagles defeated Friends University with a 76-69 victory. The OKWU men’s team finished the night with a 92-78 win over Rogers State University.
Despite having 34 turnovers and only shooting 37% from the field, the Lady Eagles were able to apply enough pressure on defense to force Friends into 30 turnovers of their own. Friends also ended the game shooting 34% from the field. Leading the way for the Lady Eagles was sophomore guard Rae Dean with 18 points, while freshman center Kayla Oleman ended with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Sophomore Forward Marva Haltom finished the game with 14 points and 7 rebounds.
Next up for the Lady Eagles is another home game on Tuesday November 2nd against Central Baptist College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
The OKWU men started off their season right where they left off last year by hitting 51% of their shots and 52% from 3-point land. They also out rebounded Rogers State 35-26 while holding them to a total field goal % of 44. Leading the way for the Eagles was freshman point guard Dominque Rambo with 22 points and 4 assists. Also in double figures was Sadiel Rojas with 18 points, Murray Shaw with 16 points, Jeff Jewitt with 15 points, and Levi Mooney with 10 points.
Next up for the OKWU men is Central Bible College on Tuesday November 2nd in the Mueller Sports Center with a scheduled start of 7:30pm.
