The OKWU Men’s Soccer team has hit the practice field with a vengence this preseason to prepare for their upcoming season. For the past week they have been going through three practices a day, many times in 100+ degree weather. When asked how the heat wave has affected practice Head Coach Jamie Peterson says “The heat is a big adjustment for our guys. I think easing our way back into the heat has helped our guys prepare for those late afternoon games that we will be playing in. The athletic training staff has done a great job of helping our staff look for signs of too much heat, so we have been blessed to have these guys.” With all of this hard work this team is putting in, the signs are already apparent in these early practices. Coach Peterson is pleased with the effort, mental strength, and team chemistry this team has already shown. “I think our team has great chemistry off the field. I think the closer we are to a family the more we can overcome during the course of the season. We have a few guys that have really stepped up in preseason with their work ethic. Some of the guys push the others to finish hard no matter how fatigued they are,” said Coach Peterson. With this work ethic and attitude going into the season this should be a team to watch!

The Men’s Soccer team kicks off their season on August 21st at 5 p.m. on the OKWU Soccer Field with an exhibition game vs. Coffeyville Community College.
