Senior forward receives honor for second time this year; sets school record in career points

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sadiel Rojas of Oklahoma Wesleyan has been named the NAIA National Division II Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Rojas was selected based on his performances from Jan. 31-Feb. 6 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings. Rojas won this weekly honor on Jan. 18, 2011.

Rojas, a 6-5 senior forward from Duncanville, Texas, averaged 30 points, 10.5 rebounds and shot 60 percent from the field in two Eagle wins last week. In the 83-74 victory over No. 6 Bellevue (Neb.) on Feb. 4, Rojas recorded his 17th double-double of the year with 33 points and 10 rebounds in only 25 minutes of action. The next night, he netted 27 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the 80-62 triumph over Peru State (Neb.). He recently became the school’s career scoring leader with 2,634 career points and holds the most career rebounds with 1,342.

In the NAIA, he ranks second in scoring (26.4 ppg), second in rebounding (11.6 rpg) and 20th in field goal percentage (.572). On the season, he has notched double-digit point totals in 24 of 25 games and reached 30 or more points in 10 contests.
