BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (9-28-09) – The Lady Eagle volleyball team (5-10) received a boost this weekend, taking down Haskell Indian Nations (Kan.) on Friday and Central Christian College (Kan.) on Saturday, both in straight sets. With the victories, the Lady Eagles improve their conference record to 2-1 in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.

In the 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-20) victory over the Indians of Haskell, Alica Efron (Fulshear, Texas) and Sanger, Texas native Leslie Smith led the way with 11 kills each. Efron and Smith also got into the act defensively; recording seven and 10 digs respectively. Senior Stephanie Lee (Lino Lakes, Minn.) set up many of their kills up, as she recorded a total of 29 assists.

Leading the way defensively with a big game was Amber Rouse. Rouse, a sophomore from Yuma, Ariz., racked up a total of 20 digs. Freshman Mandy Muncy (Denton, Texas) got into the act also, picking up 13 digs of her own.

After a quick turnaround for a match early Saturday afternoon, the Lady Eagles continued to fight, taking down Central Christian College in straight sets, 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-16).

However, unlike the night before, it wasn’t a veteran player leading the way offensively, it was Bartlesville (Wesleyan Christian) freshman Taylor Fisher. Fisher stepped up, leading a balanced offensive attack with seven kills. Muncy had six kills, while Randa Roberts (Tulsa, Okla.) and Michelle Sanger (Radfield, SD) each had five of their own.

Lee led the way with 13 digs, followed closely by Muncy with 11, and Smith and Rouse with 10.

The Oklahoma Wesleyan spikers return to action Tuesday, as they head to Joplin, Mo. for a match with Ozark Christian College (Mo.). They will return home on Friday with a MCAC battle with Peru State College (Neb.), followed by a visit from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics No. 15 Bellevue (Neb.).
