Bartlesville, Okla — Goals from Victor Gouveia, Shaddrick Kaphuka and Nemanja Zalad, guided the Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s soccer team to 3-1 victory over Oklahoma Baptist to start the season on a winning note.
The No. 5 ranked Eagles played the game without several key players, including forwards Jack McGowan and Lucas Cordeiro, as well as defender/midfielder Daniel Carney, but still managed to come away with the three points.
Gouveia opened the scoring for OKWU in the 14th minute and Kaphuka added another for the home side two minutes later, while Zalad scored his team’s third in late second half action.
Earlier, Oklahoma Baptist pulled back a goal through Pablo Garcia from the penalty spot to make the score 2-1 going into the half-time break.
