The OKWU Eagles Softball team gave host OCU all they could handle, but came up short, after losing both games of the double header by scores of 4-0 and 4-1 on Tuesday.
In the first game, Starter Courtney Carson held them off balance the whole way, but an Eagle error with two outs extended the inning, allowing the Stars to score 3 runs.
Again, The Eagles were plagued by leaving 8 runners on base, failing to get anyone across the plate. Miranda Kiser, Candace Perkins, and Allison Edwards all had single hits in the game.
In the nightcap, Oklahoma City got on the board first with a solo-shot to right field by Drew Wright. Answering in the 6th, the Eagles were able to even the score at 1-1 with the chance to add another, but Jessica Farris grounded out to the third baseman to end the threat.
In the bottom of the 7th, with two runners on and one out, Angela Lovelady hit a three-run walk off homerun to end the game with a score of 4-1. Kiser and Macy Wright had the lone two hits for the Eagles in game two.
“Overall I am pleased with the way the ladies played tonight,” said head coach Caty Reeves. “The outfield made some amazing plays and we put ourselves in a great spot to win the games.
“A few adjustments and a few less mistakes and we would be on the other end of the outcome. These types of games really show our girls how close they can be to becoming one of the top programs in the country.”
Oklahoma Wesleyan University begins MCAC conference play this Friday as they take on #6 Central Baptist at home.
