Bartlesville, Okla. — Following an outstanding season where he landed multi awards, former Oklahoma Wesleyan star baseball player Jose Ruiz has signed with The Fort Worth Cats.
Head coach Matt Parker announced the news this week.
Ruiz played a massive part in helping the Eagles to its first Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) regular season and tournament titles this season, ended the year as the leading NAIA player in runs scored (82) and RBIs (91).
The Barquisimeto, Venezuela native who was watched on numerous occasions by several scouts before deciding to join The Fort Worth Cats, was recently named NAIA Player of the Year.
The outfielder was also named MCAC and National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Player of the Year and he finished in the top 10 nationally in total bases (2nd; 169), home runs (4th; 15), slugging percentage (5th; .744) and hits (6th; 92).
Oklahoma Wesleyan finished third at the recently concluded Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series in the school’s first-ever appearance in the tournament, and finished with a program best 58-8 record.
