(Lawrence, KS)- The Oklahoma Wesleyan University “B” team made its spring debut Monday and Tuesday in Lawrence, KS. Ottawa University was the host school at Eagle Bend Golf Club. The tournament field saw several teams from the KCAC Conference, and it was a great chance to compete against other competition.
The first round saw the Eagles fire an opening round 300 to land the lead after day 1. Renior Knox (Fr., Corpus Christi, TX) shot a 2-under round of 70 to lead individually. Knox found himself 3 over thorugh is first two holes.
He rebounded with an eagle on the 4th hole and was able to build on that momentum. Alejandro Lopez (Fr., Medellin, Colombia) fired a 74 to find himself in 2nd.
Taylor Asbill (Fr., Watts, OK) shot an opening round 76. Other Eagle scores included Taylor Hurd (Soph., Springfield, MO) with an 80, Cody Codding (Sr., Copan, OK) with a 90, and Connor Eadie (Fr., Euless, TX) with an 81.
“I thought our kids competed well,” Assistant Coach Gary Dickinson said. “We came out and played well, and we have a lead going into tomorrow. It will be fun to see what happens.”
The Eagles shot a 2nd round 319 to fall into 3rd place as a team. Renior Knox followed his opening round 70 with an even par round of 72. Knox won the tournament individually by an impressive 8 shots. It was Knox’s second victory of his young career.
Connor Eadie fired 77 in his 2nd round to finish tied with Taylor Asbill who shot 82. Alejandro Lopez shot a 2nd round 80 to finish T-9. Taylor Hurd would shoot 84 in his final round, and Cody Codding shot 85.
“Renior had a great week to win by 8 shots.” Dickinson said. “Our team held their own against the other schools “A” teams. It was a great week to build upon, and we look forward to what is to come.”
The Eagle “B” team will continue its spring season in Conway, AR on March 24th-25th.
