Seeking their fourth winning streak, three seniors led the way to a 3-1 win over Waldorf women’s soccer team. The game started with the Eagles controlling much of the tempo as they swung the ball from side to side.
It did not take long before they were awarded a free kick just outside the 18 yard. Elisa Brito (Brazil) curled the ball toward the net only to be punched away by Kylee Vitale (Waldorf GK), but the ball found senior midfielder Ashley Burnett (Scotland) who blasted it into the net in the 20th minute.
Seven minute later, a quick counter attack by speedy sophomore forward Paula Vicenzo (Brazil) and Elisa led to a cross to the far post where goal-getter senior Amber Brown converted home with a calm header to make it 2-0, assisted by Elisa.
The second half saw a shift of momentum as the Waldof ladies were determined to make it their day.
Their persistence paid off in the 60th minute when a poor clearance from Eagles GK Lisa Bartman gifted Madisen Haines a chance to assist Mia Crail-Yussuf to make it 2-1.
However, the Lady Eagles shrugged away any panic and capitalized in the 86th minute, a goal by senior forward Libby Storie to make it 3-1.
Lisa made 3 saves while Vitale had 8. The Eagles outshot Waldorf 17-4.
This was the first conference win for the Eagles. Next game will be on Wednesday October 9th against Bacone College at 1:00 pm in Muskogee, OK.
