Bartlesville, OK — In a much anticipated game between Oklahoma Wesleyan University against their conference rivals Bellevue University, the Lady Eagles showed dominance as they registered a resounding 3-0 win.
From the opening whistle, the OKWU worked tirelessly to break the dead-lock. Their efforts paid off in the 3rd minute when senior forward Libby Storie laid a back pass to senior forward Amber Brown, who struck the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.
The Lady Eagles kept pressing for another opportunity and the home supporters pushed them to further success, as a through pass from Elisa Brito split Bellevue’s defensive line into the path of an awaiting Brown, who made it 2-0 in the sixth minute,
In the second half, Bellevue started by sending more numbers forward. Their offensive prowess lead by Jenica Bloom created several chances, but OKWU goalkeeper Lisa Amann denied them.
In the dying minutes of the game, freshman forward Guadalupe Cortez was fouled 25 yards away from the goal. Dead-ball specialist, Brito, struck the ball with accuracy and power into the upper 90 of the goal to make it 3-0 in the 89th minute.
“It was one of the best goals seen this season,” said one OKWU fan.
Full-time results, 3-0, second conference win and extension of the winning streak to 6 games.
“ Our ladies worked extremely hard today” said coach Vladan Glavonic. “ Our defense was the key factor in this win.
“Everyone worked extremely well when we weren’t in possession and that was the key of our success today”.
Lisa Amman registered 5 saves while Caitlin Stier made 3 saves. OKWU had 12 shots against Bellevue’s 11.
