Vintage display earns the Lady Eagles a resounding win over Tabor College
A stylish Oklahoma Wesleyan women’s soccer team stamped authority against Tabor College (Kansas) in a 5-1 thrashing over the weekend.
Patience with the ball was the key as the Lady Eagles combined displays yielded a set piece outside the 18 yard.
Tenacious midfielder, Elisa Brito, superbly curled the ball into the back of the net to give a 1-0 just 10 minutes into the game. Dynamic runs by Ashley Burnett found her at the right position with the ball, struck the ball, off the rebound from Carly Rowan (Tabor GK) and into the net to make it 2-0.
The second half started with the same intensity as Eagles midfield lead by Ana Popov dictated the tempo of the game. In the 46th minute, a penalty kick was awarded to the Eagles after a handball in the 18 yard. Brito took the spot and made no mistake as she sent Tabor’s Rowan the wrong way to make it 3-0.
In the 50th minute, a corner crafted in by Popov was deflected in the 6 yard only to find Brito as she blasted the ball into the roof of the net earning her a hat-trick of the day; 4-0 and counting.
A pass from Paula Vicenzo found flamboyant winger Amber Brown as she run widely to make a 45 degree angle cross which beat Tabor’s defence and found Kaka Mourao at the mercy of the goal who converted home to make it 5-0, 60th minute.
Five minutes later, Lauren Mohamed saved a penalty kick, but the clean sheet did not last long as Tabor’s Cari Tippin (assisted by Ashtyn Stephens) pulled one back to make it 5-1.
The Lady Eagles lead the shots by 22 to 6. Lauren Mohamed made 2 saves and Lisa Amann made one save for the Eagles while Carly Rowan made 10 saves.
“ We played very well today” coach Vladan Glavonic said. “We were calm on the ball and midfield did tremendous job in dictating the game the way we want to play”.
Glavonic continued: ”More than anything, I was pleased with our defending as a team, ladies worked extremely hard when we weren’t in possession and I am looking forward to more of these kind of performances.”
The Lady Eagles will travel to Waldorf College on October 5th @ 1:00 pm for their first conference game.
