Lady Eagles softball fell 1-2 in MCAC Crossover Tournament – Day 1

McPherson, KS — In the first day of the inaugural Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Crossover Tournament, the Lady Eagles went 1-2, defeating York College 8-3 before falling to Bellevue University 9-3 and Waldorf College 14-5 (6).

This drops the Eagles to a record of 18-12 on the season and 4-3 in MCAC play.

The Eagles took charge in game one with the help of 2 homeruns from Allison Edwards. She also added a sacrifice fly to bring her total to 6 RBIs on the game. Kim Billie went the distance, spreading out 9 hits and giving up 3 earned runs. Miranda Kiser was also 2-2 with 3 runs scored while Brittany Stevenot added an RBI.

In game two, Bellevue chased starter Courtney Carson out of the game in the second inning after scoring 4 runs, all coming on solo homeruns, two by leadoff batter Shelby Kindelin. Jenna replaced Carson, giving up 5 earned runs herself on 6 hits. Jessica Farris was 2-3 in the game while Candace Perkins lead the team with 2 RBIs.

In the third game of the triple-header, again the long ball was fatal as Waldorf scored 8 of their runs off of 5 homeruns. Billie started the game, going 3.1 innings giving up 9 earned runs on 10 hits before giving way to reliever Jenna Daniel.

Offensively, Edwards again went deep hitting a two run homerun in the bottom of the first, closing the gap to 3-2 after Waldorf jumped out with 3 runs early. Two more runs were scored in the bottom of the 4th aided by a Viking error to score two more. The Eagles would get no closer than 9-5. The Eagles mustered just 3 hits by Courtney Gililland, Perkins, and Edwards.

OKWU finished MCAC Crossover play tomorrow morning at 10:00am against College of St. Mary.
