Bartlesville, OK — The Oklahoma Wesleyan University Lady Eagles softball team returned to action Thursday night after a stretch of 19 days of being rained or snowed out.
The Eagles lost the game 7-4 against St. Gregory’s University. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Shawnee but was moved to Bartlesville after weather conditions forced the move.
The second game of the double header was cancelled due to cold weather conditions.
The Eagles got on the board first when Candace Perkins lead off with a walk. A few batters later, Jessica Farris, Allison Edwards, and Miranda Kiser all reached on error allowing Perkins to score and Edwards to score. The Cavaliers answered back immediately with a lead-off solo shot to center field by Melanie Gladden.
They then picked up 3 more unearned runs in the inning to take the lead. St. Gregory’s added another in the third after a hit batsman scored on a RBI single by Whitney Anderson. In the sixth a two run homerun by Allison Conyers put the Cavaliers up 7-2.
In the bottom of the 6th Leanne Salas answered with a two-run blast to right center to narrow the lead to three but the Eagles could not make up the gap.
Courtney Carson threw 6 innings allowing 4 earned runs on 7 hits, 1 walk, 2 hit batters, and 3 strikeouts. She took the loss and is now 1-3 on the season.
Katie Kelley came in the 7th inning throwing a perfect final inning with 1 strikeout. Sierra Gallego took the win for St. Gregory’s allowing 4 runs on 4 hits, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
