The OKWU Lady Eagles softball team bounced back after starting the season 1-4 with two victories at Ottawa University. The first game lasted just 5 innings as the Eagles won 13-1 off of 12 hits. Christie Bell lead the way going 4 – 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Freshmen Ty’Shonna Harris came in to pinch hit with the bases loaded and blasted a grand slam to left center, her first collegiate home run. The Eagles score 2 in the second, 3 in the third, 3 in the fourth, and 5 in the fifth. Jenna Daniel took the win recording 10 strikeouts giving up just 2 hits and one earned run.
The second game of the double header proved to be a hitters battle with a final score of 15-13. The Eagles started off with a pair of runs in the first via back to back RBI doubles by Leanne Salas and Macy Wright.
Another three were added in the second when Miranda Kiser ripped an RBI single to centerfield, followed directly by a Mariah Shepherd double that scored Kiser and Brittany Stevenot who reached by a single. Ottawa would not be left without runs of the own, scoring three in the fourth to keep the game within reach at 9-5.
In the bottom of the 7th, after OKWU put up 4 runs thanks to RBI singles by Shepherd, Bell, and Jessica Farris, Ottawa answered back by scoring 5 runs with two outs off relief pitcher Daniel, hitting two doubles and a HR by Mikayla Oliphant, her second of the game.
Daniel was able to get Amber Harris to fly out to third to end the threat, giving up the five runs in the inning. Selena Lopez pitched the first 6 innings giving up 9 hits, 7 earned runs, and striking out 4 batters. She moves to 2-3 on the year.
As a team, the Lady Eagles recorded 30 hits, 12 walks, and 28 runs hitting .462. With all but two of the 14 hitters recording a hit. Lopez wasa 3-4, Bell 5-7, and Kiser 6-10 including a home run and two doubles. There were only 3 innings of the 12 innings played the Eagles did not plate a runner.
The Lady Eagles are back in action Friday as they play host to Sterling College at 2:00p on the Eagle Softball Field. Saturday Evangel University and Kansas Wesleyan University visit for 12:00 and 4:00 start time, respectively.
