Lady Eagles Softball splits with Missouri Baptist, 1-1

The Eagles again responded with their backs against the wall, scoring three in the 6th and another in the 7th to force the first game of their double header against Missouri Baptist into extra innings.

With the International Tie-Breaker in effect, Jessica Farris was placed on second base. Allison Edwards then doubled and pinch hitter Brittany Stevenot was walked to load the bases for Candace Perkins. Perkins then laced a pitch to right center, scoring all three runners.

A few batters later, Leanne Salas sent a pitch out of the park for a three run homerun, giving the Eagles a 10-4 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Missouri Baptist was able to answer with a single run but got no closer as the final score was 10-5.

Courtney Carson picked up the win, going 8 innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits. Offensively, Salas lead the team going 2-3 with 3 RBIs along with Edwards who was 3-4, blasting a 3 run homerun in the 6thand ending up a triple away from the cycle.

In the second game of the series, MBU put up 6 runs in the first two innings of starter Kim Billie. OKWU was once again able to score three runs late in the game by another three-run home run by Salas. In the top of the 7th, another two runs were added off of a MBU error, but the final two hitters were retired to end the game at a score of 9-5.

The Eagles return to play Saturday against Greenville College at 11 and 1 in Illinois. The Eagles are now 8-5 on the season.
