BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The Oklahoma Wesleyan softball team swept Evangel University on their home field to collect their first two wins of the season.
After winning Game 1 on a walk-off hit 4-3, the Lady Eagles won another close contest in Game 2 by coming away with a 5-4 victory over the Crusaders.
Game 1 – OKWU 4 Evangel 3
Ashleigh Capps got the start on the mound in the opening game of the double-header. She pitched all seven innings giving up just two earned runs and striking out four batters. At the plate, Ally Raines led the way with a 2-for-4 performance that included a RBI and a run scored. First baseman Anna Sutherland also went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Michaela Shouldis and Britney Howard racked up the other two hits for Oklahoma Wesleyan to round out the batting in Game 1.
Game 2 – OKWU 5 Evangel 4
In Game 2, a three-run third inning by Oklahoma Wesleyan was the difference maker. Ally Raines was a big reason for those three runs as she collected two RBIs after her 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Five other Lady Eagles batters would each collect a hit in the game. On the mound, Makayla Kelly was able to battle her way through some tough innings to earn the victory. Kelly gave up four earned runs and struck out three batters.
Oklahoma Wesleyan will stay home for their next games when they host Grand View University this weekend for a four-game series starting on Friday. First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 2:00pm at the OKWU Softball Complex.
