(Bartlett, TN)- The Oklahoma Wesleyan University men’s golf team played its second tournament Monday and Tuesday in Bartlett, TN. The tournament was hosted at Quail Ridge just outside of Memphis. The tournament saw a diverse field of NCAA DII and DIII teams as well as NAIA schools. It was a good chance for the Eagles to see some new competition.
The first round saw the Eagles shoot 296 as a team to finish in 2nd place behind Centenary College of Shreveport, LA. Kyle Essary (Soph., Lenexa, KS) fired a 1-under round of 69 to lead individually after the first day.
Both Clayton Sikorski (Sr., Burlington, Canada) and Spencer Colson (Fr., Tulsa, OK) shot an opening round 75 to finish 6 off Essary’s pace. Rounding out the Eagles was Curtis Johnson (Sr., Temecula, CA) with an opening round of 77 and Scott Seymour (Jr., Moore, OK) with 81.
“It was a good day for us,” Head Coach T. J. Dickinson said. “Kyle really stepped up for us, and everybody else played decent. The real test will be if we can come out and play well tomorrow.”
The Eagles would shoot a 2nd round total of 313 to slip to 6th place. Clayton Sikorski paced the Eagles with a 74 to finish T-13. Spencer Colson fired a 2nd round 76 which landed him in 16th place. Curtis Johnson followed up his 77 with an 81, and Scott Seymour shot a 2nd round 82. Kyle Essary would slip to T-17 with an 84.
“We didn’t have anything going today,” Dickinson said. “I thought a couple of our players battled hard, and the others really struggled. We will go back and get a good couple of weeks of practice in before our next tournament. This team is improving, and we will put everything together.”
The Eagles will be back in action after Spring Break on March 24th-25th in Conway, AR. Central Baptist College hosts their spring event at Country Club of Arkansas.
