(McPherson, KS)-A milestone for the Oklahoma Wesleyan University golf program took place in McPherson, KS on September 9th and 10th. The program participated in its first ever women’s golf tournament.
At 8:15 on that Monday morning, Alyssa Cardwell (Fr.-Mustang, OK) hit the programs first shot off the #1 tee box. It was a great drive that landed right down the middle of the fairway.
The Lady Eagles would have a solid day around Turkey Creek Golf Club. The winds were blowing at 20-25 mph, but the Lady Eagle golfers found themselves in 2nd place after the opening round. Cardwell was in 5th place individually after posting 88.
Lindsey Heal (Fr.-Denton, TX) shot an opening round 92. Other members of the Lady Eagles included Halie Hansen (Fr.-Shawnee, KS) and Hannah Womack (Fr.-Roanoke, TX).
The second round saw the Lady Eagles hold on to finish 2nd as a team in the inaugural tournament. Alyssa Cardwell shot a second round 85 for a two day total of 173. That was good enough to earn her 5th place as an individual.
“I think it was a great tournament for our girls,” Head Coach T.J. Dickinson said. “They competed hard and grew a lot as a team. It was good to see all of them battle.”
The Lady Eagles will continue their season September 23rd and 24th in Moore, OK as part of the Mid-American Christian University Tournament.
