Winfield, KS — Oklahoma Wesleyan women’s basketball team picked up massive victory on the road after it knocked off No. 16 Southwestern 84-72 in overtime in Winfield Tuesday night.
Sophomore Nichole Tate scored 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting for 58 percent, five rebounds and four assists and transfer junior Megan Jones added a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead the way for the Lady Eagles, who are now 2-1 on the season.
Freshman guard Courtney Backward added 12 points and junior Kayla Oleman finished with 10 points in the win.
As a team the Lady Eagles shot 29-of-72 from the field, but were 19-of-21 from the free throw line.
The OKWU women have now won two in a row since losing 62-56 to Friends University in their opener.
Jana Reichenberger led Southwestern College with 22 points and 10 rebounds, Montana Rickey finished with 15 points and Trinicia Shaffer had 11.
The Lady Eagles will next be in action on Friday and Saturday when they host the OKWU Classic.
