Today, March. 21st, a group of OKWU Students and Staff are headed to Washington, D.C. for a rally held during Wednesday’s arguments of Oklahoma Wesleyan’s case at the Supreme Court.
OKWU joins several other Christian universities in lawsuits against the Obamacare abortion pill mandate. Currently the mandate requires OKWU to include the provision of abortifacient drugs in its employee health package. This not only sits in opposition to the first amendment, but also violates OKWU’s strongly held beliefs on the sanctity of life. If the court rules against Oklahoma Wesleyan, the University would face staggering fines for not complying.
The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is providing the legal defense for the Christian colleges in the suit free of charge in their case for religious freedom. ADF will host the students and staff in the Capitol this week. OKWU will participate in a prayer rally and then provide a visual presence in front of the Supreme Court during the closing arguments on Wednesday. Students will also have the opportunity to tour the city and learn more about constitutional liberty.
