Where do I start?
Three main avenues of aid are available to students: federal aid, institutional aid, and community aid. To make the most of your financial aid resources, all three sources should be pursued.
Financial Aid Types
There are a wide range of terms on financial aid. Some require repayment, some don’t.
Federal
No matter what college you apply to, filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is something everyone wanting financial assistance must do.
OKWU’s school code is 003151
Institutional
OKWU offers awards and scholarships to make college less expensive. Each award is different, having separate qualifications and values.
Get your application in early! The recommended date is April 15th.
Community
Unlike student loans, scholarships and fellowships do not have to be repaid. Hundreds of thousands of scholarship dollars are awarded each year.
Apply early and widely – many sponsors have money left every year because students don’t apply for it!
What’s the timeline?
- File the FAFSA January 1st – March 31st
- Apply for OKWU institutional aid by April 15th
- Receive your financial aid packet in 4-6 weeks
