How do I find money in my community?
There are two ways to start your search for scholarship money in your community.
- Do an internet search. There are several websites that act as a database for scholarships. Fastweb.com, Petersons, the college board are examples of services that are free, that keep your information confidential unless you release it, and notify you later if they add a scholarship for which you’re eligible. Be sure to use a website that offers scholarship opportunities without charging you money for the information.
- Look Locally. Talk with your guidance counselor, the places where you or your parents work, look at organizations like Rotary, Kiwanis, or Veterans of Foreign Wars. Many communities have civic organizations that sponsor scholarship competitions. Apply even if the scholarship is for a smaller amount – remember, many small scholarships add up to big savings!
