Grants
Grants are similar to scholarships in that you don’t need to pay them back. There are a variety of grants offered to qualified OKWU students.
Loans
Loans are money the federal government (or a bank, or even a relative) give you that you must pay back. Some loans have no interest; some loans don’t collect interest until you graduate; some loans have terms that are connected to your plans after graduation.
Scholarships
You usually do not need to pay scholarship monies back. Scholarships can come from your school, an organization, or a contest and may be awarded as prizes.
Work Study
Work study, awarded based on financial need, provides opportunities for students to work a job on or off campus as a way to offset their college expenses.
The Federal Work Study Program provides funds for students to earn money through part-time employment. Work-study awards are based on a student’s financial need. Work-study positions pay $7.25 an hour and students are scheduled to work 8 – 10 hours a week. Work-study students must meet the obligations of their job or may forfeit their work-study job and anticipated aid.
