Ana Baranjin, a sophomore at Oklahoma Wesleyan University, has illustrated her first children’s book alongside author Monica Epperson. The book is titled “Bounce” and will be released December 3rd. Both author and illustrator will attend a book signing on December 4th at Hastings in Bartlesville, Okla.
Baranjin is from Belgrade Serbia and has been living in the U.S. for a year and a half. Majoring in marketing and graphic design at OKWU, Baranjin is using her artistic talents in class and on projects such as this one.
Dr. Cochran, a professor in the Communications Department of OKWU, knew of Ana’s talent and interest in illustrating. When author Monica Epperson came looking for an illustrator, Cochran connected her with Baranjin.
Baranjin worked closely with Epperson to decide how the characters should look. Developing the characters was Baranjin’s favorite part of the process. “I had no clue how they were going to end up looking,” she said. “Everything was new. The whole process was something special,” she added.
“This was in the middle of a lot of school work and I had never done anything like this before,” said Baranjin, “so it took me about six months. Working with Monica was amazing. She was really helpful and understood about my schoolwork.”
“Bounce” is the story of a young boy dealing with a divorce in his family.
“Michael loves playing basketball and the sound of the ball swishing throughout the net. But without his dad around to coach his team, will Michael still be able to play his favorite sport?” – bouncebook.net
