BARTLESVILLE, Okla., September 2, 2011.
Oklahoma Wesleyan University hires Matt Parker as head coach for the Eagles’ Baseball team, last year’s NCCAA National Champions.
A former player for Coach Kirk Kelley, the coach that led the Eagles to their 2011 championship and a 39-28 season, Parker steps up to the plate as head coach and is looking forward to watching his players develop academically, spiritually, and athletically.
“I don’t believe there is any greater goal that watching them succeed in these areas of their college lives,” says Parker.
Parker spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at California Baptist University. During his time with CBU the Lancer Baseball team won the Golden State Athletic Conference two of the three years Parker assisted them. In addition CBU made its second ever appearance at the Avista-NAIA World Series and ranked third nationally.
As for Parker, he played four seasons at NAIA Lyon College in Batesville, Ark., earning All-TranSouth Conference honors in 2005. He was a two-time TranSouth Scholar-Athlete and earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors as a senior. Parker later earned his master’s in sports administration from Henderson State in 2007.
Parker and his wife, Lindsey, now reside in Bartlesville, Okla.
