The OWU Degree Program
Oklahoma Wesleyan University, in partnership with The Voice of the Martyrs, has developed a one-of-a-kind bachelor's degree with a major in the Persecuted Church Ministries. This unique major may be earned as a stand alone ministry degree, or it may be combined with a number of other majors, such as nursing, communication, business, education, or cross cultural ministries. This program challenges students to understand the suffering of Christ's Body, the church, as an extension of the suffering of Jesus Himself, and, therefore, as a source of grace and wisdom (Philippians 3:10). OWU programs examine political and social context of persecution and provide students with practical communication and advocacy skills to use on behalf of today's persecuted church. The program also includes practicum and/or internship experience, under the direction of The Voice of the Martyrs staff, either in Bartlesville or internationally. The bachelor degree in Persecuted Church Ministries provides the intellectual and spiritual breadth as well as practical skills necessary to those who are called by God to serve, to minister, to teach, and to speak for the Christian brothers and sisters who live and worship God under restricted or hostile governments.
The VOM Certificate Online Workshops
This fully online, non-credit, program is designed to serve as a basic ministry and spiritual resource on the issues of Christian persecution and biblical response to such anguish, and includes examples of various initiatives from The Voice of the Martyrs.
The Certificate consists of three workshops and addresses the major issues dealing with Christian persecution today:
- Persecution: A Look at the World Today
A look at what is happening in hostile and restricted nations today.Various sessions cover each of the ministry regions of the world based on VOM designations).
- Persecution: A Historical & Theological Perspective
This workshop looks at Christian persecution from historical and theological perspectives. The workshop addresses the issue of “God & Government, or how Christians in restricted and hostile nations deal with persecution and suffering andhow they respond to their respective governments.
- Persecution: A Christian Response
This workshop seeks to answer the following question: Now that you understand the history, theology and current sitution, what is the proper Christian response? This workshop looks at biblical and practical avenues of response of Christians living in the “free” world, and deals the proper Christian response for the believer who is the target of persecution.
The VOM Certificate is a great ministry tool for pastors, Sunday School teachers, and anyone who wants an introductory level immersion in the ministries to the persecuted Christians in the restricted and hostile nations.
