“Where your treasure is there your heart will be also.” (Luke 12:34)
Welcome to the OKWU Foundation and Development Office website. By arriving at this site, you are no doubt interested in helping OKWU succeed in its mission to claim the whole realm of teaching and learning for Christ. You are very wise, because there is no other facet of the Christian life which gives more clues about whether we are practicing wisdom than our approach to material possessions and particularly money. In fact, I can’t think of a wiser word of admonition than the statement once made by Jim Elliot. “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose.” You see, when Jesus tells us not to store up treasures on earth, it’s not because wealth risks being lost; it’s because, without exception, it will always be lost. One of the wealthiest men who ever lived was John D. Rockefeller. When he died his accountant was asked how much money he left. The reply came: “He left…all of it.” Do not store up treasures on earth!!!
If we hear the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:20, we learn where we can store our treasure. “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” There is no limit to the interest earned if we invest our treasure in the right place. How do we do that? By sharing our treasure where it can draw interest for God. When we redistribute God’s treasures in this life to those who need it, we simultaneously store treasures for ourselves in heaven and put our wealth to work for Him on earth.
Permit me to suggest that Oklahoma Wesleyan University is a place where you can store your treasures and the dividends will be multiplied for God on earth and in heaven. Investments in OWU build God’s kingdom by nurturing the lives of scores of young disciples who in turn will store their treasures in a heavenly account. The interest accrued will be extraordinary now and in the future.
The number one tool we offer at OKWU for building heavenly treasure is the Annual Fund. Money invested in the Annual Fund helps needy students pursue a Godly education in preparation for careers all over the world. We need generous friends who will make regular deposits in their heavenly account by giving every year to OKWU’s Annual Fund from disposable income. Will your name appear on the ledger of this high interest account?
An additional avenue for accruing capital with God is through planned giving. Planned Giving deals with the disposition of holdings from which income is created. Many of you will have investments of several varieties which will be disposed of upon your entering your permanent dwelling place. Will those funds be lost, or will they be credited to your heavenly savings account? Through the OKWU Foundation, you can plan now to have your resources working for you and OKWU both now and in heaven in perpetuity. Image the accrued interest you could return to God over ions and ions.
This website will provide you with information about how gifts help both the University and its students. It also will give you a variety of choices on ways to give, as well as an opportunity to give online. Please take the time to look at each link and make a gift to the University today. How exciting it is to share in this great endeavor with all of you!
In Christ, Dr. Randall S. Thompson
