HELP FOR PARENTS

At OKWU, we understand that in the application process parents are often just as involved as their son or daughter. We want to encourage you as you set out to make sure your child finds a place that will encourage growth spiritually, educationally and emotionally.

How to Help

Your support is the most important resource your children have. The most important way you can help your child is through encouraging them, offering support and assuring them that they can do this. Keeping a positive attitude can turn a crazy and stressful process into an enjoyable experience.

Taking the Tests

OKWU, like most 4-year schools, require students to take either the ACT/SAT. A way to help your son or daughter is to find out when these tests are given by going online or having your student get a registration booklet in the high school counseling office. Though you cannot take the test for them, you can be active through this process by helping them study for the test, encouraging them to take practice exams, and by allowing them to re-take the test if they believe they can do better.

Paying For College

Paying for college is often a huge stress on parents. Most parents find it comforting to know that at OKWU, over 90% of students at OKWU receive some form of financial aid. Our Financial Aid Office has resources, scholarship and award information available to help relieve much of the financial burden. Read more
