a.k.a. Western Holiness College 1905-1959

It all began in 1905 in a little cottage on 27 W. Huerfano Street in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was known was known as the Rocky Mountain Missionary and Evangelistic School started by Rev. William Lee. The purpose was “to train a few young people who were saved and definitely called to Christian work.”

In 1910 the vision for training materialized into the reality of an incorporated institution known as the Western Holiness College and Bible Training School, later known as Colorado Springs Bible Training School.

The historical collector’s print shows the early Administration building which served as classrooms, offices, and provided various needed facilities. It represents, in the minds of alumni and friends, a strong holiness heritage that was taught within its walls.

Special training imperatives listed by Rev. Wm. Lee, the first President in 1910, emphasized: “First, the training was to be scriptural. Second, the training was to be practical. Third, Western Holiness College was designed to be a school of physical culture. And fourth, Western Holiness College was designed to have one purpose – the best possible development of every faculty of the student for the work of the Master.”

In 1959, the campus was moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, renamed as Central Pilgrim College from El Monte, California in 1960. The Oklahoma campus is now known as Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
