Function of Job
Teaching responsibilities are predominately in the traditional Bachelor of Science in
Nursing Program. This position requires a faculty person with a specialty in medical-surgical or maternal-child nursing, and documented leadership experience in nursing who shares the vision of the School of Nursing: to be Christ’s hands and heart to touch the world one person, family, and community at a time.

Supervision Given/Received
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Dean of the School of Nursing.
Performance reviews are conducted on an annual basis by the Dean of Nursing in the
spring semester.

Examples of work performed

To teach in at least two clinically based undergraduate nursing courses per year.
To participate in the coordination and oversight of clinical experiences.
To evaluate students per policy.
To advise, mentor and support students.
To participate in School of Nursing and University wide committees as assigned.
To participate in the on-going planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of
the nursing program.
To contribute to the Nursing budgeting process.
To develop and distribute course syllabi.
To participate in the development of required documents such as, self-studies,
Oklahoma Board reports, etc.
To support and contribute to the institutional strategic mission, vision and goals.
Performs other tasks as assigned.
To be members of the OKWU Faculty Council and Nursing Faculty Council.

Educational Requirements and Qualifications
A Master’s Degree in Nursing or a baccalaureate in Nursing with evidence of continued
progress toward a Master’s Degree in Nursing at a rate of no less than six academic
semester credit hours per calendar year is required. A Doctorate in Nursing or a related
field, from a regionally accredited institution, is preferred. Must have a current
unencumbered nursing license in the state of Oklahoma.

A current practice with a minimum of two years full-time equivalent practice as a
Registered Nurse is required. At least one year of full-time teaching experience in a
baccalaureate program is preferred. Evidence of commitment to the integration of
Christian faith and living with the theory and practice of nursing is expected. A personal
and vital Christian faith is required along with a connection to The Wesleyan Church or
one of the many denominations comprising the historic Wesleyan-Armenian tradition is
preferred.

Position Expectations
1. Facilitates the application of theory to the practical world of nursing.
2. Participates in all School of Nursing Council meetings.
3. Provides the class with a written outline of course expectations and grading
criteria (a syllabus) on the first day of class.
4. Obtains prior approval from the Dean for any substitutes, guest speakers, or
changes in the class schedules or sites.
5. Maintains regular class and office hours.
6. Provides a careful review, evaluation and timely feedback on students’ work.
7. Submits grades and attendance sheets to the Registrar according to established
deadlines.
8. Coordinates and conducts make-up sessions as needed.
9. Represents Oklahoma Wesleyan University in a professional manner.
10.Attends regularly scheduled faculty meetings, pinning and commencement
exercises.
11.Faculty must submit requested changes in curriculum to the Curriculum
Committee before implementing a curricular change.
12.Prior approval from the Dean of Nursing or Vice President for Academic
Affairs/Provost is required for non-emergency absences from assigned teaching.
13.All changes to the original class schedule such as cancellation of class,
scheduling an alternate class, longer session, etc. must have prior approval from
the Dean of Nursing or a designated representative.
