Oklahoma Wesleyan University

Undergraduate

Spiritual depth in Christ, mature understanding, and effective ministry — these are the ends we pursue. We are driven by our passionate love for God and our neighbor.

Biblical Studies

The Biblical Studies degree is designed for students who want a thorough working knowledge of Scripture, but do not wish to pursue the ordination track. Students in this major also have enough elective hours to choose a minor, giving them a wide range of flexibility in their future ministry opportunities.

Christian Missions/Persecuted Church Ministry

OKWU has partnered with Voice of the Martyrs to offer this major, the only of its kind in the world. Students will learn about the history of persecution against Christians from the first century Church to today, and will gain the skills needed to work in behalf of contemporary martyrs.

Biblical Studies/Worship Arts

Musically gifted students may want to consider this degree, which combines biblical and theological studies with music as well as visual and dramatic arts. Students who complete this major will be equipped for a ministry coordinating music and other arts for church settings.

Intercultural Ministry

The Intercultural Ministries major is specially designed for those who wish to pursue ministries which involve differences of language or culture, and involves church planting and leadership. Students who are interested in Bible translation may wish to combine this degree with a minor in Linguistics. This degree does not fulfill the requirements for ordination in the Wesleyan church.

Pastoral Ministry

The Pastoral Ministry major is for those who intend to pursue full-time ministry in the Wesleyan church. This major fulfills all requirements for ordination, and equips students to pastor effectively in a variety of congregational settings.

Pastoral Ministry/Biblical Studies

This degree combines the Pastoral Ministries major with extra Biblical Studies courses to give the pastor a superior knowledge of the Bible. This major fulfills the requirements for ordination in the Wesleyan Church. Due to the critical importance of learning Koine Greek for serious study of the New Testament, only a bachelor of arts is offered for students interested in this degree.

Pastoral Ministries/Youth Ministry

This major equips the pastor to minister effectively to the general congregation and to youth specifically. Students who may pastor in smaller churches which require pastors to have multiple roles would benefit from this degree. This major fulfills the requirements for ordination in the Wesleyan church.

Sports Ministry

This major equips students for a wide range of ministry involving sports, such as full-time sports ministry or sports team chaplain. This major does not fulfill the requirements for ordination in the Wesleyan church.
