Oklahoma Wesleyan University

Undergraduate

Living on campus is part of being fully engaged in college life. We provide a home away from home with new friends and old friends and allow you to learn where you live. Campus life is both spiritual and social. Our Resident Assistants are there to guide and mentor you; residence halls are there to make you feel safe and comfortable. Being a part of the OKWU family means establishing friendships that last a lifetime.

Resident Assistants

The Resident Assistant (RA) supervises and mentors residents within the halls. RAs are students who have completed a selection process, demonstrated their commitment to serving fellow students, and have been trained in helping skills. The RA is a “helper” whose primary responsibilities involve developing relationships, implementing programs, dispensing information (or referring a student to someone who can help), offering personal advice, and confronting violations of community standards. There is one RA assigned to each section of the residence hall. RAs keep duty hours in the evenings on campus, and at least two RAs will be available in the residence halls each evening.

Residence Hall Administration

The Office of Residential Life has three professional staff members available to foster the OKWU community and serve as first responders in case of residential emergencies.

The Resident Director (RD) supervises the Resident Assistants and activities of the men’s and women’s residence halls. Their primary responsibilities supervising and mentoring the RAs, being the point person for any issues that come up within the residence halls and following through on administrative tasks related to on-campus living. The Resident Directors for 2009-2010 are Lonna Hunter (Women’s RD) and Mike Wilson (Men’s RD).

The Director of Residential Life oversees all activities and administration regarding on-campus living. The DRL supervises the RDs, acts as a liaison between the students and administration, and helps implement campus community. The DRL is JJ Veale.
