SALINA, Kan. – The Oklahoma Wesleyan baseball team clinched the KCAC Regular Season title with a doubleheader sweep over Kansas Wesleyan University.
After defeating the Coyotes 14-0 in Game 1, the third-ranked Eagles soared to a 10-2 victory in Game 2. No. 3 Oklahoma Wesleyan is now 44-9 overall this season and 20-6 in conference play.
Game 1 – #3 OKWU 14 Kansas Wesleyan 0
Left-handed ace, Zach Johnson, got the start for the Eagles on the mound in the opening game. Johnson pitched all seven innings of the run-ruled game, only giving up three hits and striking out six batters. With the win, Johnson is now 9-0 on the mound with a 3.84 earned run average.
At the plate, No. 3 Oklahoma Wesleyan was able to compile 15 hits in 37 plate appearances. Will Price led the way as he collected two home runs in the game, as part of his 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Trevor Achenbach went 3-for-5 from the leadoff position with a home run, three RBI’s, and three runs scored. Chris Tapia also added a home run as he went 2-for-3 with three RBI’s and two runs scored. Rodelfo Oleta rounded out the top hitters for the Eagles by collecting two hits in four at-bats.
Game 2 – #3 OKWU 10 Kansas Wesleyan 2
Will Price stayed hot for No. 3 Oklahoma Wesleyan in Game 2 of the doubleheader. The senior left-fielder sent another long ball over the fence after going 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI’s and two runs scored. Trevor Achenbach and Chris Tapia each added a home run as well, as they combined to go 3-for-7 at the dish with four RBI’s. Senior catcher Alex Lugo went 2-for-4 with a RBI, while Alec Hardin finished 1-for-4 with two RBI’s and a run scored.
On the mound, Carlos Aldana made the start and struck out five batters in his six innings of work. Landon Williams came into relief to close out the game and clinch the conference regular season title for the Eagles.
No. 3 Oklahoma Wesleyan will take on Kansas Wesleyan in their final regular season game on Sunday, April 30th. Due to the weather, a time has yet to be determined.
