McPherson, KS — The Lady Eagles have a reason to smile after they won Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) regular season with a resounding 5-0 win over Central Christian College.

The start of the game saw OKWU pressing forward to crack the opener. Five minutes into the game goal-assassin Paula Vicenzo had a scoring chance when she struck the ball only to be saved brilliantly by Central Christian goalkeeper Twila Smedley.

Ten minutes later, a long pass from junior midfielder Serina Gomez found senior forward Amber Brown on the left wing who controlled the ball and crossed it for senior midfielder Ashley Burnett to blast it into the back of the net to make it 1-0 for Eagles.

Shortly after the half-time interval, skillful Kaka Moura split Central Christian defense with a through pass that found Brown who calmly struck the ball into the bottom corner of the goal to earn the second goal for the Lady Eagles.

Less than five minutes later, Moura’s inswing corner was met by Burnett who headed into the net to earn her a brace and 3rd goal of the day. In the 57th minute, Vicenzo found Bristol Clark on the blind left wing as she danced her way into the goal to make it 4-0.

Brown completed the scoring four minutes later, when a corner kick by Gomez found Brown on the back post and she headed the ball into the net to earn her a brace.

The Lady Eagles outshot Central Christian College 22 to 6.  With the win, Oklahoma Wesleyan were claimed the regular season champions for the first time in school history. Much credit to the players and head coach Vladan Glavonic.

Next game will be away against Roger State University on Friday 2nd @ 1:00pm.
