Bartlesville, Okla. (Box Score) — The OKWU men’s soccer team got its 2013 campaign off on a winning note, following a 5-2 victory over John Brown University at home on Monday.
A brace each from Brazil duo Lucas Almeida and Lucas Corderio and one from freshman Nemanja Zalad piloted the Jamie Peterson coached #14 ranked Eagles to the easy win in the end.
The contest though, was a nervy one for the home side, which saw its healthy goal cushion cut to just one goal in the second half.
Leading 3-1 at half-time, Peterson went on to make several substitutions, which saw the visitors cut into the lead to make it an interesting game at 3-2.
However, Corderio and Almeida scored late in the second half to make sure the Eagles opened its season on a winning note.
“A win is a win,” Peterson, who was a little disappointed to have given up two goals, said. “But it’s a start.
“We’ll just build on from here.”
Oklahoma Wesleyan will again be in action at home on Friday against St. Gregory’s.
