Eagles Soccer slipped past Rogers State in scrimmage

Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s soccer took on Rogers State University in a spring scrimmage on Saturday night.

The Eagles showed why they were one of the best scoring offenses last season, netting 4 goals before the game was called due to lightening.

Captain Lucas Almeida scored off a set piece, shooting the ball from 23 yards out. Following Lucas’ goal the eagles played a direct pass to Jack mcGowan who flicked the ball on to Lucas Cordeiro who lead the nation in assists last year.

At 2-0 te eagles mounted more offense that put RSU under pressure. A foul on RSU set up a beautiful display as Almeida played a one-two with Cordeiro and Almeida sent a low cross in that found a diving Ben Williams. Ben Williams scored the only goal in the national tournament last year against Hastings.

RSU bounced back and showed a lot of heart as they scored the next three goals. One of which was on a free kick and one that was a rocket from 30 yards off.

OKWU saved the scoring on the day with perhaps the best display for last. Lucas Cordeiro found himself in the box, where he showed a spectacular display of a heel flick that found Lucas Almeida.

Almeida calmly tucked his chance away. Lightening kept the teams from finishing the game, with 10 min left. Eagles will play NCAA D2 powerhouse Midwestern State in April, in another scrimmage.
