Eagles Volleyball Collects 2 Wins in Home Tri-Match With Lyon & Dallas Christian


Bartlesville, Okla. – The Lady Eagles started the day off strong in 3-1 win against Lyon College. Lyon College hit first, earning the first set 13-25. OKWU fought back to win the next 3 sets: 25-21, 25-16, and 25-18. Leaders for the Lady Eagles against Lyon College included junior Kenadee Valdez with 11 kills, 1 solo block, and 1 block assist, junior Laine Alves with 10 kills and 4 digs, freshman Taylor Voight with 8 kills, senior Elli Matos-Torres with 22 assists, junior Ashley Cook with 9 assists, and junior Bobana Marusic with 18 digs.

OKWU dominated Dallas Christian College in their second match of the day, 25-15, 25-16, and 25-8. Voight led the Eagles’ offense with 9 kills, Valdez with 6 kills, junior Karlye Wagner with 5 kills, and Alves with 4 kills. Freshman Zoee Granville had an impressive debut, earning a hitting percentage of .667. Setter Matos-Torres had 18 assists and sophomore Taylor Helmer, 9 assists. Marusic led the defense with 15 digs. The Lady Eagles had a total of 70 kills and 92 digs at the completion of the tri-match on Saturday, September 7th.

The Lady Eagles are now 4-4 in pre-conference play. They will face off against Langston University in Langston, OK on Tuesday, September 10th at 6pm.
